The beautiful and very small golden poison arrow frog is one of my favourite amphibians.
Here are 5 interesting facts about them:
- They are one of the most poisonous animals in the world. The poison from one frog can kill up to 2 adult elephants. They aren’t born poisonous, but get it from the food that they eat.
- Their poison is used only for self-defense and can only hurt their predators if they pick them up or eat them.
- They are brightly coloured because they know that predators will keep away.
- Local indigenous hunters used their poison on their darts for hunting.
- They only live in the rain-forests of Colombia and are endangered.
I hope that you found these facts interesting and learned something new.
