Today I want to write about polar bears because they are a powerful creature with very cute cubs.
Here are five interesting facts about them:
- Polar bears are the largest living land carnivore, with adult males growing up to 2.6 metres in length. This makes them even bigger than Siberian tigers.
- They mainly eat seals and sometimes, walruses. They use their head to smash through snow and ice to get to the seals hiding below.
- They have an excellent sense of smell. They can smell a seal from over one kilometre away and under a metre of snow.
- Despite their appearance, the skin of a polar bear is actually black and their fur is see through. They look white because they reflect the light around them.
- Pregnant females can go without eating for up to 8 months at a time. They give birth to between 1-3 very cute cubs.
I hope that you found these facts interesting and learned something new.
Are there any other interesting facts that you would like to share about polar bears?
I once read a novel series about polar bears(and black bears and grizzly bears too). It is written by Erin Hunter and is called Seekers.
Polar bears live in the arctic but not penguins
